🌟 Lighting Tips from the Judges 🌟

Want to wow your neighbors and impress the judges in this year’s Holiday Lights Contest? Here are a few tips to help your display shine:

  1. Think Canal-Friendly
Use warm yellows, soft colors, or multi-colored lights instead of bright lights, which can blind boaters on the water. Ensure any spotlights or bright lights are shielded from shining into the canal.
  2. Balance is Beautiful
Even small displays look magical with symmetry. Outline rooflines, docks, or railings for a polished look.
  3. Layer Your Lights
Mix large bulbs with mini-lights or add glow with low lights on decorations. Layers create depth and make displays more eye-catching from the water.
  4. Neighbor Friendly
Use a timer or smart plug to turn lights off by 11:00 p.m. so everyone can enjoy a peaceful night. Be mindful of neighbors across the canal and next door, avoid aiming spotlights or bright displays toward other homes or bedroom windows.  A well-placed glow looks festive from the water and friendly from next door!

👉 Judges will be looking for creativity, community spirit, and safe lighting that can be enjoyed by both neighbors on land and boaters on the canals.
