President's Message April 2010

President's Message

Our guest speaker for March was Jodi Singer Operations Manager of Development Services for Hernando County.  This includes both the Building and Zoning departments.  They are a self supporting agency that supports themselves through the fees collected, which was approved by the Board of County Commissions in 1995.  There were some very interesting questions and it was a very good discussion.

In the last issue of the Beachcomber we had a letter to the Residents of Gulf Coast Dr and 1st through 8th Isles to discuss the Fire Hydrants in the area.  We had some problems with the mail this month and not all of the members received the Beachcomber.  So I don’t believe everyone knew about the planned discussion.  I am publishing the letter again this month so everyone is aware of the details.   We had a short discussion and of course there is concern regarding the cost.  If we have enough participation we will continue the discussion at the April meeting.   So if you have any comments or questions please join us in April.

We are still working with the county regarding 4109 Des Prez.  We will have another update next month.

We had a discussion regarding the Parking Fees that the Parks and Recreation department are considering.  We discussed an Annual Pass, a Residents Pass and the cost of both.  A suggestion was made to somehow use the Dump Passes to show residency.  The response from the audience was mixed some were for the fees and some were against.  We also had some that didn’t believe the county is using the money they already have wisely and don’t believe they should be trying to get more.

Don Bowers also joined us to give an update on the Boat Lift.  The plans have been completed and it is currently out for bid.

I hope to see you at the next HBPOA meeting on Thursday April 1st at 7:30pm at the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Valerie Shelter
President, HBPOA
